Government House Garden Auckland
★★★★★
Step into a stunning blend of exotic trees and native New Zealand flora that grace our beautiful garden. Dating back to the 1870s, many of our majestic trees are complemented by the original lava outcrops and indigenous vegetation that define the landscape.
The house, built in 1921 by Sir Frank and Lady Mappin, showcases a harmonious integration of natural features, existing trees, and carefully curated new plantings. Enjoy the garden they lovingly developed over 45 years.
In 1966, the Mappins gifted this exquisite home and garden to the Crown, establishing it as a vice-regal residence. Our dedicated garden committee works diligently to maintain the garden’s original character, navigating the challenges of a climate that promotes lush growth.
Join us to experience this remarkable garden and learn about its historical, botanical, and design significance. Perfect for nature lovers, history enthusiasts, and anyone looking to enjoy a peaceful escape.
