Tauhara (Private)

‘Tauhara’ is a country garden of approximately 1½ hectares at the foot of Lake Taupo’s Mount Tauhara; it has been developed over the past 25 years. Older trees make a back drop to the planting on the property where from mid October flowering shrubs and bulbs are at their best; later giant scented lilies, roses and early perennials display in the semi-formal areas near the house.  Hot coloured perennials follow; these have been selected to attract butterflies and bees.  A mature copper beach on the top lawn leads to an old watercourse and ponds where seating offers relaxation and time to watch the damsels and dragonflies. Further down this shaded valley there is a choice selection of plants including lamiums, hostas, reinga-rengas and native ferns, some planted on the steep over hanging banks. This is the newest part of ‘Tauhara.’
